OUR STORY

Maya had always been a go-getter. When she was younger, she wanted to move to Canada to study. Her family had been against it, but she had persisted. She had saved up money and applied to schools. When she was finally accepted, she had been over the moon. It was her opportunity to start anew and prove to herself that she could do anything she set her mind to.

 

The first few months had been tough, having to leave her family and friends behind. But she was determined to make it work. She faced many challenges, including the climate, the language, the culture, the people, the food, and more. Of course, she missed the warmth of the Haitian sun and the sound of Creole being spoken all around her. Maya was homesick and missed her family and friends dearly. Yet, she was not a quitter and decided to make the most of her situation. She slowly began to make friends. She started to learn about the new culture and to understand the people. She tried new food and even began to like some of it. She would wear traditional Haitian dresses with American sneakers. She would eat Canadian food with a Haitian twist.

 

Bit by bit, she started to feel more comfortable. Every single day, Maya wore something with a message or visuals from her culture to school. She wanted people to see Haiti not as a poor, war-torn country, but as a place with a rich culture and history. She wanted people to understand that Haiti was more than just the negative stories they heard on the news. Maya was proud of her country and her culture. And she was determined to show the world the best of both.​

 

Despite the challenges, Maya was happy. She was living her dream and working towards her future. And she was doing it all while staying true to herself. Her buddies and coworkers seemed enthusiastic about what she wore and asked her to set up an online store so they could purchase the same…
